In early December, the Bolivia sector of Bolper gathered for a retreat focused on deepening their commitment to the Oblate charism and mission.

“What is my motivation in the ministry I do?” was the question that guided the annual retreat of the Bolivia sector of Bolper during the first week of December in Santa Cruz. Through the eyes of our Constitutions and Rules, twelve Oblates reflected and prayed about the richness of the charism we are committed to live and which we express in our spirituality and mission.

The retreat ended with a pilgrimage to the Marian shrine of Cotoca. We celebrated the Mass of the Immaculate Conception, reflected on Mary in the life of St Eugene and in the Constitutions and Rules, and renewed our Oblate consecration to Mary.

As is customary, the final day was dedicated to a community meeting of review and planning. Two young men participated in the retreat as part of their vocational discernment journey of a year of living in various Oblate communities. They spent last day learning about St Eugene.

On the Saturday before the retreat, many of the laity who have been associated with the Oblate mission in Santa Cruz for around 60 years, gathered for a time of reflection and celebration. The talk on the key values expressed in the Oblate Constitutions and Rules for our Charismatic Family led to questions and discussion as to their relevance in the current difficulties being experienced in their lives and in the country. A celebration of our collaboration in song and dance followed, accompanied by the opportunity to taste and enjoy the local Santa Cruz food.
