“A New Heaven and a New Earth” Multi-Artist Album
OMIUSA JPIC
From Fr. Seamus Finn, OMI, Director, OMIUSA JPIC
As we have just completed the celebration of the Season of Creation for 2024, and the celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day on October 14th, I wanted to share a short update on the project that OMI USA JPIC has been a part of from the beginning.
The attached press release, and other referenced resources will provide a more complete history of the project. In short, it is an ecumenical project that was initiated to provide biblical and faith resources for
faith communities in the United States through the medium of music and song. It’s also meant to invite those communities to be a part of the conversation about the numerous challenges, that climate change and it’s a attributed effects are having in different regions throughout the world.
We worked with a number of professional musicians from Nashville and met with them to discuss the themes that are elaborated by Pope Francis in his encyclical letter, Laudato Sì. The next stage of work has now been achieved as an album of the different songs which were created have has been recorded and is now available online. Many of these songs are already being used in worship and offered in concerts by these artists and we hope to sponsor a few more concerts in the coming year.
Please don’t hesitate to share this great news with others in your faith communities and if you have any feedback or suggestions, we would love to hear them. We are convinced that this project can help to heal some of the divisions which exist on this vital topic and, provide inspiration and support for those who are seeking a greater integration of their faith with the created world that will help us to embrace the work of caring for the planet and the poor.
