Oblate Receives Meritorious Service Award
Lowell, MA
Br. Richard Coté was among 150 lay and religious men and women who were awarded the annual 2023 Cheverus Award at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross during a solemn vesper service for the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 26 (which coincidently was Bro. Richard’s 74th birthday). The award, which was presented by Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston is given for meritorious service to the Archdiocese of Boston and is named in honor of Jean-Louis Lefebvre de Cheverus, first Bishop of Boston who served from 1826-1836.
Br. Richard was nominated by Fr. John Hanley, Superior of Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence, Tewksbury. Br. Richard has held various positions in some of the former Oblate parishes in Lowell. Currently he serves as Director of Oblate Foreign Missions (Haiti-Cuba) with office at I.H.M. He is also Curator/Historian at St. Joseph the Worker Shrine in downtown Lowell. Previous honorees include Brothers Charles Gilbert and Thomas Cruise.
