On October 4, the Synod on “Synodality” will begin in Vatican City. In preparation for this event, the Secretary General of the Synod, Cardinal Mario Grech, extends a heartfelt invitation and reminds the faithful that the synod “is above all, a spiritual event.”

In a letter addressed to bishops and eparchs from across the globe, Cardinal Mario Grech, General Secretary of the Synod, invites the faithful from around the world to unite in prayer with the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops that will open on the 4th of October.  With this letter, the General Secretary reminds everyone that the Synod is a time of spiritual communion, prayer, and an opportunity to listen to the Holy Spirit, the true orchestrator of the Synod.

With that spirit, the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments offers the faithful three resources:

  1. A universal prayer with intercessions for one day of the week.
  2. A universal prayer with intercessions for the Sunday Mass.
  3. A Solemn blessing at the end of Mass.

The call to prayer from Cardinal Grech is one of many initiatives that highlight the spiritual character of the Synod and help promote the participation of the entire People of God through prayer.
