This workshop addresses the content of the Interior Castle and the use and spirit of that content in the ministry of spiritual direction. It will include reading, class participation, lecture and practice. The ideal candidate is one who has already completed an introductory course in the ministry of spiritual direction and has read The Interior Castle by Teresa of Jesus.

Space is very limited, so register early.

Workshop Dates

This workshop will take place one day a month on Saturdays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Central Time on the following dates:

2023: Sept 9, Oct 14, Nov 18*, Dec 9

2024: Jan 13, Feb 10, Mar 9, Apr 13, May 18*

*These dates fall on the 3rd Saturday of the month; all other dates fall on the 2nd Saturday of the month

Tentative Agenda

First Day: Meditative Prayer, Individual or Group Work, Discussion, Lecture, Practice

Each gathering will follow this same basic format.

Texts used include, scriptures, basic text by Lund, the Collected works of St. Teresa of Avila v.II

Facilitator

Deborah Hanus earned a B.A. in English and History from The University of Texas at Austin, M. A. in Education from UTSA , MTS from Oblate School of Theology, D.Min. from the Graduate Theological Union.

Deborah has served as a teacher at local Catholic High Schools as well as faculty at UI W. She has been a retreat director at Casa San Jose (now Oblate Renewal Center), and is the founder of The Center for Spiritual Growth and the Contemplative Life. Deborah, a widow and grandmother, now ministers through retreats, workshops and spiritual direction. She is a docent at the San Antonio Museum of Art and sponsors faith-based museum tours.
