Archbishop Stephen Brislin of the Archdiocese of Cape Town, South Africa was appointed Cardinal by Pope Francis on July 9, 2023. The statement by +Sithembele Sipuka, president of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference may be read by clicking on the link.

Cardinal-elect Brislin was honored by Oblate School of Theology in May with and Honorary Degree. Sylvester David, OMI, is the Auxiliary Bishop of Cape Town.
