How does one’s vocation, whether as a vowed religious or a lay person, take on new life in the autumn and winter of life? What shifts in identity arise as the focus changes from being in charge and active, to a more contemplative role? How can we begin to live more fully into being a compassionate presence, living as a blessing to others? How will this draw us to deeper mystical union with God and all of creation as we are transformed by a call to love as God loves—unconditionally and without measure?
In this fifth of a series of conversations with elders who have entered into the final stage of life with grace and wisdom, Dr Maggie Meigs, Director of the Forest Dwelling Program at OST, will have a conversation with Sr Anne Munley (IHM), a graduate of the first cohort of the Forest Dwelling Program. Sr Anne, a sociologist, and the author of works on aging and death and dying, has lived in religious community for more than 50 years. She will reflect on shifts in identity and how the ways in which one lives them are informed by a contemplative life, whether one lives as a vowed or lay spiritual seeker.
