Administration Names New Honorary Oblates

U.S. Oblate Province

By Fr. Louis Studer, OMI, U.S. Provincial

I received word June 24th that Father General had named Gerardo Gonzalez, Sr., Jane Ann Slater, CDP, and John and Gee-Gee Whitehurst Honorary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. At the June Provincial Council meeting we unanimously recommended them for this great honor.

Sr. Jane Ann Slater, CDP
John & Gee-Gee Whitehurst

Gerardo has served as Investment Manager for the Oblates for the past 25 years and also served on many finance and investment committees for both the Oblates and the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Sister Jane Ann currently is a member of the Board of Oblate School of Theology and recently retired from ministry as Chancellor for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. John and Gee-Gee Whitehurst have been active members of the Oblate Partnership since its beginning almost 20 years ago and have been faithful participants in Oblate programs and events throughout this time.

Gerardo S. Gonzalez

All four honorees will officially receive this designation Saturday, November 19, during Mass, in San Antonio.

Honorary Oblates share in all of the spiritual benefits of the Congregation. They truly are one with us. This designation was begun by St. Eugene himself as a way to honor and thank those who have shown their love for the Congregation by charitable works and a strong desire to share deeply in the Charism of the Congregation.
