Evangelization During the Time of the Corona Virus
Mission-Unity-Dialogue
How do we evangelize during this unprecedented corona virus situation? First by deepening our awareness that it is normal and healthy to lament. As Fr. Richard Rohr, O.F.M. makes clear below, lamenting is part of our Jewish heritage. Jesus lamented, so should we.
Thirdly, and most importantly for those of us who have fundamentalist family or friends, now is the time that they may reach out to us and we to them. If you want to know more about fundamentalism itself, check out the chapter on Fundamentalism in Dividing or Strengthening, the Five Ways of Christianity, pp. 112-21 especially: www.harrywinter.org, Five Ways Page, click on adobe pdf version.
It is in times of crisis that fundamentalists need us and we need them. During more peaceful times, little communication is possible between fundamentalists and other Christians. But now, we need each other to shop for groceries, take people to the doctor, and simply share, especially over the phone and internet. Now we can see the suffering Christ in our fundamentalist family member or friend, and they can see the suffering Christ in us.
As we proceed into the second half of Lent, let us keep each other in prayer before the Savior who asks us to join our suffering with His.
The title of the reflection is “Summary and Lamentation Practice for a Time of Crisis” It is published on Richard Rohr’s website, Center for Action and Contemplation
