The Joy of Oblate Youth: Oblate Youth Outreach (OYO)

Zambia

By Fr. Felix Bwalya Nyambe, OMI

(Fr. Felix ministers to Zambian youth at Mary Immaculate Parish in Lukulu, Zambia)

Our young people live in an ever-changing world/society. Many come from broken families and difficult circumstances.  Such an environment contributes to the collapse of values and morals. and we see a rise in  teen pregnancies, crime and the use of drugs and alcohol.

In such a challenging environment, youth ministry is valuable. The youth have great qualities and gifts to offer. They have great energy that needs someone to help them channel that energy in a positive direction.

Therefore, Oblate Youth Outreach (OYO) aims at developing, confirming, and strengthening the relationship these young people have with God. It also gives them a voice and empowers youth to actively and responsibly participate in, and contribute to the activities of the Church and society. God calls the young people to be agents of evangelization for other young people. The youth are called to be prophets of change, of love, joy, hope and compassion to all.

Oblate Youth Outreach (OYO) challenges the youth to embrace the Faith they have received and to share it with others. They are also challenged to exemplify good character and high morals so that through their actions, they will inspire other young people.
