The smell of fresh cut roses hung in the air around Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto on Sunday.
Hundreds gathered on the Oblate Missions grounds to honor Mother’s Day in a ceremony that alternated between subdued prayers and blessings for the mothers in their lives and the lively Matachines, who danced to drum beats in headdresses and jingling skirts.
“Mothers have much to say, and much to give,” said Father Saturnino Lajo in Spanish.
