Slideshow: Flores de Mayo Pilgrimage and Celebration

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows hosted its first annual Flores de Mayo Pilgrimage and Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, May 23rd and 24th. Saturday saw the  Filipino tradition of presenting flowers to Ina, a Mass of Welcome to pilgrims, and a procession for Our Lady of Penafrancia to the ampitheatre whith a cultural celebration featuring native dancing. Sunday featured a rosary procession, and a Mass of Dedication of the Chapel of Santo Nino de Cebu and Thanksgiving for 75 years of Oblate Mission in the Philippines.

Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, OMI, Archbishop of Cotabato, Minanao, Philippines was the special guest for the weekend. In addition to the mass on Sunday, Cardinal Quevedo hosted and spoke at a luncheion followed by a conversation with Fr. David Uribe, OMI where the Cardinal spoke of his early years in the Philippines, his time in Oblate formation and his long frindship with Pope Francis among other things.
