Celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

immacusmallToday, August 15, 2012, is a major feast day, for on this day, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Pius XII once defined today to be a “dogma of faith.” Those words stand true today, over 60 years later. We honor Mary Immaculate and commemorate her death and bodily assumption to heaven. Although there is no known scripture accounting for Blessed Mary descending into heaven, several biblical passages speak of this moment as an exemplification of the woman’s victory. Mary is so closely associated with Jesus that many consider her to be with him body and soul in heaven.{jcomments on}
